What is the Model United Nations Conference?

The March conference is a two-day simulation where students act as delegates of UN Member States and negotiate to address a global issue outlined in the Scenario. Here’s what to expect at the conference:

Day 1

On day 1 (Friday) morning, student delegates present their preliminary statements to the General Assembly with the goal of finding allies for their position.

The General Assembly session goes into recess at lunchtime, when student delegates dine with TU volunteers. Use lunchtime to strategize and seek advice from the TU volunteers!

On Friday afternoon, the General Assembly reconvenes wherein student delegates begin to present their resolutions (as detailed in their position paper) for debate and voting.

During all General Assembly Sessions, student delegates can send Official Communications to other delegations to negotiate with them.

Day 2

On day 2 (Saturday) morning, student delegates meet in their assigned committees, which are led by TU experts (professors, alumni, and students). The goal of the committee is to draft and agree on a resolution that the committee will present later to the General Assembly for debate and voting. Committee meetings offer opportunities for collaboration and problem-solving.

After committees end, the General Assembly reconvenes, at which point the committee resolutions are debated and voted on.

After the General Assembly session ends, student delegations eat lunch and then attend Career Sessions to learn from veterans of the Model UN program. They also attend a special Honors College event where they learn about the research of a TU college student.

At the end of the day is the Awards Ceremony!
