Values and Goals

We strive to

  • Facilitate the study of international affairs and increase global awareness and knowledge among high school and college students.

  • Ensure students’ abilities to become well-informed participants in the American political system

  • Provide college success, readiness, and exposure opportunities to participants regardless of their socio-economic resources and backgrounds

  • Ensure meaningful participation in an active learning environment

  • Present leadership development opportunities to help students gain a sense of efficacy in citizenship, the workforce, and life contexts

TU-BCPS Model UN History

Founded by Dr. Alison Rios Millett McCartney of Towson University and Mr. Hugh Kearney of BCPS, the program has operated every year since its first conference at Towson University in 2003. It has served over 2600 high school students in the state of Maryland. And counting!

What makes TU-BCPS Model UN unique?

TU-BCPS Model UN is a collaborative partnership between Towson University and Baltimore County Public Schools. Our conference cultivates globally minded, college- and career-ready Maryland high school students.

TU-BCPS Model UN prioritizes accessibility for all students, offering the program free to participants and advisors. In contrast, many national conferences charge high fees per student, creating a financial barrier for many families.

The TU-BCPS Model UN partnership is pioneering innovative teaching and learning approaches for high school and college students. Our programming and training complement BCPS curriculum, bolstering students' college and career readiness. By hosting the conference on the Towson University campus, we offer high school students unique opportunities to connect with professors and college peers.
